Real-life couple Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody will lead an upcoming half-hour comedy pilot Seasoned inspired by their relationship.Showtime has green-lit the pilot, which is expected to shoot next month in NYC.
The scripted comedy is co-created and co-written by the couple's son, Gideon Grody-Patinkin, and Ewen Wright. The show follows a committed (and slightly insane) married couple, played by Patinkin and Grody, who have been married for 43 years. The show teases, "The source of their unending magic is the same as their unending woe: that they’ve stayed together all this time."
"Mandy and Kathryn helped me and millions of online viewers get through the pandemic with their wonderfully warm, funny, and inspired social media posts," said Gary Levine, co-presidents of Entertainment at Showtime Networks. "Together they fearlessly show us the joy and the chaos of marriage, aging and grappling with the indignities of everyday life. We are thrilled to welcome them back to Showtime, along with their talented son Gideon and his partner Ewen who are expanding their posts into a half-hour comedy pilot for us."
The couple share an Instagram and TikTok account and often post together. In a recent video, the two duetted the 1948 song "A-You're Adorable" by Sid Lippman, Buddy Kaye, and Fred Wise.
Tony winner Patinkin has starred in Broadway productions of Evita and The Wild Party, and originated the title role in Sunday in the Park with George, opposite Bernadette Peters. On screen, he starred as Saul Berenson in Showtime's Homeland, as well as The Good Fight, Life Itself, and Wonder. Two-time Drama Desk nominee Grody starred in the solo show A Mom’s Life, as well as Top Girls and The Marriage Of Bette and Boo.
Seasoned is produced by JAX Media for Showtime, and executive produced by Tony Hernandez, Brooke Posch, Isabel Richardson, Ewen Wright, and the Patinkin trio. Wright will direct the pilot.
