Awards Buena Vista Social Club Wins Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande also won for Wicked, and Maybe Happy Ending performed.

Winners of the 2026 Grammy Awards were announced in two ceremonies in Los Angeles: the 2026 Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony on Youtube, and the 68 Annual Grammy Awards on CBS and Paramount+.

Buena Vista Social Club won the Grammy for Best Musical Theater album, with Marco Paguia, Dean Sharenow and David Yazbek credited. The other nominees in the category were Death Becomes HerGypsyJust in Time, and Maybe Happy Ending. In his acceptance speech, Sharenow thanked "all the composers and performers who created this music over many, many years that speaks around the audiences that don't even speak Spanish."

Other theatre-themed winners include Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, whose rendition of "Defying Gravity" from the Wicked film won a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The duo was not in attendance, so premiere ceremony host Darren Criss accepted it on their behalf.

Other winners include Heggie: Intelligence, which won Best Opera Recording. The horror-musical Sinners won Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media (for Ludwig Göransson). Animated musical KPop Demon Hunters won Best Song Written for Visual Media for "Golden."

Laufey won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for A Matter of Time.

Tony winner Darren Criss hosted the 2026 Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony; Criss and his Maybe Happy Ending co-star Helen J Shen also performed thee musical's title song at the event, accompanied by composer Will Aronson (fans can watch it here around the 2 hour 50 minute mark).
