New York high society is getting some more notable players! The HBO television series The Gilded Age, known as much for its Broadway star-filled cast as it is for its gorgeous gowns, has added more names to its cast for season four.
According to Deadline, season four of the period drama series will see Tony nominee Jordan Donica (Camelot) and Ashlie Atkinson promoted to series regulars. The series will also welcome six more actors as recurring characters: Tony winner Bonnie Milligan (Kimberly Akimbo), Tony nominee Taylor Trensch (Bat Boy: The Musical), James Scully (Oh, Mary!), Maggie Kuntz (John Proctor is the Villain), Neal Huff (To Kill a Mockingbird), and Dennis Haysbert (24).
And according to Tony winner Donna Murphy, who plays Caroline Astor, season four will feature a two-year time jump, with the action taking place in 1886.
The period drama takes place in New York at the turn of the 20th century, dramatizing the class and racial dynamics of the time.
Milligan will play the the real-life Mrs. Knapp Curtis, editor of The Ladies’ Home Journal. Trensch will play Oliver, a new addition to the van Rhijn household staff. Scully will play an up-and-coming painter named Lee Klein. Kuntz will play Fiona Summers, cousin of the Astor family. Haysbert will play Dr. Reginald Harris, mentor of Jordan Donica's William Kirkland. And Huff will play the real-life oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller.
At the end of season three of The Gilded Age, Bertha Russell (played by Carrie Coon, currently in Bug on Broadway) was facing a possible divorce, as her husband George (Morgan Spector) dramatically departed from their shared home. Meanwhile, Peggy (Denée Benton) was proposed to in fairy-tale fashion by William, despite the disapproval of his mother (Phylicia Rashad).
In season four, according to Deadline, Bertha will face the consequences of her ambition, while dealing with Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski), who is trying to regain her position in New York society. At the same time, Agnes' niece Marian (Louisa Jacobson) is trying to forge a new path for herself while navigating her complicated relationship with Larry Russell (Harry Richardson). The upcoming season will also see Peggy presumably married and navigating her in-laws.
The new season does not yet have a release date, though it's likely late 2026 or early 2027. It is not yet announced who in the current cast will be returning.
The first three seasons of The Gilded Age are currently streaming on HBO Max. It is created by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey), with Fellowes and Sonja Warfield acting as writer and executive producer.
