Tony winner Ruthie Ann Miles—recently seen Off-Broadway in The Seat of Our Pants, Ethan Lipton's musical version of Thornton Wilder's The Skin of Our Teeth—is part of Hope of the Season: The Tabernacle Choir Christmas Special, which premiered on PBS in November and can be viewed in its entirety in the video below.
Filmed before a live audience at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, the evening features a 500-member cast, including The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square, Bells at Temple Square, and the Gabriel Trumpet Ensemble.
Miles (The King and I, McNeal, Sweeney Todd, The Light in the Piazza) wraps her rich voice around such holiday tunes as "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," "O Little Town of Bethlehem," and "Angels From the Realms of Glory."
Actor Dennis Haysbert (Race, 24, Major League, Absolute Power, Love Field) also narrates the original Christmas story from Luke and tells the true story of African philanthropist Dr. Charles Mulli, who rose from poverty in Kenya to become a successful businessman, then gave it all up to rescue thousands of abandoned children.
Christmas with The Tabernacle Choir has previously welcomed guest artists including Audra McDonald, Lea Salonga, Angela Lansbury, Kristin Chenoweth, Gladys Knight, Sutton Foster, John Rhys-Davies, Jane Seymour, Richard Thomas, and more.
