A new trailer has dropped for the film adaptation of Amiri Baraka's The Dutchman.

Presented by Rogue Pictures and Inaugural Entertainment, and produced by Cinemation Studios, the film will be released to cinemas nationwide January 2, 2026.

The film, a modernized adaptation of the 1964 Obie-winning play, centers on Clay, a Black businessman, as he attends therapy sessions with his wife Kaya in an attempt to salvage their marriage. Their mysterious therapist is not all that he seems, and he begins to unexpectedly appear to Clay outside of their sessions. On a New York subway train, Clay encounters Lula, a seductive but sinister white stranger who slowly begins to unravel his life.

The film adaptation stars André Holland as Clay, Kate Mara as Lula, Zazie Beetz as Kaya, Tony nominee Stephen McKinley Henderson as Dr. Amiri, Aldis Hodge as Warren, Lauren E. Banks as Gina, Lenny Platt as Officer Barnes, Tracy Wilder as Dr. Bowers, Benjamin Thys as Officer Davis, Shonica Gooden as Zara, Lazarus Simmons as Malik, Sally Stewart as Mystic Lady, Tony Torn as Janitor, Kevin Tyler Rodriguez as Officer Luis, Hyunmin Rhee as Officer Kim, and Michael Lawrence as Bradford Easley.

The film features a screenplay by Qasim Basir and Andre Gaines, based on Baraka's original play. Baraka passed away in 2014, and was not involved with this adaptation. The film is directed and produced by Gaines. Jonathan T. Baker also serves as producer.

Dutchman was first presented at the Cherry Lane Theatre in March 1964. The stage play was made into a film in 1967, starring Shirley Knight and Al Freeman Jr., reprising their roles from the play's Los Angeles production. Knight won the Best Actress Award at the 28th Venice International Film Festival. The play was revived Off-Broadway in 2007, again at the Cherry Lane, starring Dulé Hill and Jennifer Mudge.
