Video: 2-Time Tony Winner Kara Young Goes on a Revenge Quest in Is God Is Film
Aleshea Harris' award-winning play is headed to the big screen.

Who's ready for a revenge road trip? The first trailer is out for the upcoming film Is God Is, written and directed by Aleshea Harris and based on her play of the same name. See the first trailer above, which stars two-time Tony winner Kara Young (Purpose) and Mallori Johnson (Kindred) as sisters. The film, from Amazon MGM Studios, will be released May 15.
The play, Harris' film directorial debut, follows two sisters who go on a road trip to find their father, in order to kill him and avenge their mother. Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown plays their father while Vivica A. Fox plays their mother. Singer-songwriter Janelle Monáe plays the father's new wife.
Is God Is first premiered Off-Broadway at Soho Rep in 2018 and subsequently won three Obie Awards, include for Harris’ playwriting. The writer's other plays include What to Send Up When It Goes Down and On Sugarland. Is God Is the film was originally optioned by producer Scott Rudin and A24 in 2018. Following Rudin's step back from the entertainment industry following allegations of abuse, Harris shopped her script around until it was purchased by Amazon MGM.
