GLAAD, the world's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, held the 37th GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles March 5, and theatre favorites came out on top in several categories.

Hosted by Jonathan Bennett (Spamalot), this year's ceremony recognized nearly 300 nominees in more than 30 categories. The ceremony will stream exclusively on Hulu beginning March 21.

In the competitive awards, the film adaptation of Kander and Ebb's Kiss of the Spider Woman won Outstanding Film – Wide Theatrical Release, the film A Nice Indian Boy (starring Jonathan Groff and based on Madhuri Shekar's play of the same name) tied for Outstanding Film – Limited Theatrical Release with Plainclothes, and Liberation won Outstanding Broadway Production.

In the non-competitive awards, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony winning icon Liza Minnelli surprised the room to receive GLAAD’s Inaugural Liza Minnelli Storyteller Award in honor of her upcoming memoir Kids, Wait Till You Hear This! Presented to her by her longtime friend, Michael Feinstein, Minnelli entered the stage surrounded by ensembles of dancers to great fanfare following an in-depth look at her legacy and impact narrated by RuPaul.

As previously announced, Breaking the Binary Theatre also received a non-competitive special recognition award for The Drowsy Chaperone in Concert, as did Gaydar with Anania, soon to make their Broadway debut in The Rocky Horror Show at Studio 54.
