Brotherhood, a new movie musical written and directed by Ross Boothe, has looked to Broadway for its cast. Mauricio Martínez (On Your Feet!) will star as Fabián opposite GENTRI founding member Casey Elliott as Jon. The project will begin production in April, and is aiming for a theatrical release in the fall.

The film centers on two next-door neighbors, one an American citizen, and the other a Mexican immigrant in the midst of a decade-long wait for a resolution to his U.S. asylum application. According to press notes, the project explores "what it truly means to be neighbors, Americans, and human beings."

“This project is deeply personal to me,” says Martínez in a statement. “As an immigrant, this story hits very close to home right now. It’s about people, about heart, and about empathy—and music is such a powerful way to communicate those things. That’s what moved me most about Brotherhood.”

The project will feature 17 original songs, also written by Boothe.

“I felt compelled to use what I do to say something meaningful about how we treat one another," says Boothe. "Once the script and score came together, it was clear that the story needed artists who could communicate that heart honestly. Mauricio and Casey bring that humanity to every scene.”

Daren Smith's Craftsman Films is producing.

The filmmakers will track the movie's making on social media. Visit BrotherhoodMovie.com for more.
