The limited series adaptation of Peter Shaffer's West End and Broadway hit Amadeus, which premiered in the U.K. in December 2025 via Sky Studios, has been acquired by Starz for streaming in the U.S. later this year.

A specific premiere date has yet to be announced for the five-part series. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer below.

The series is led by Will Sharpe (The White Lotus) in the title role, Broadway alum Paul Bettany (The Collaboration) as Antonio Salieri, and Gabrielle Creevy (In My Skin) as Constanze Weber. Joe Barton (The Lazarus Project) penned the screenplay, and Julian Farino (Giri/Haji) and Alice Seabright directed.

Amadeus is a perfect fit for our original series lineup—a bold, character-driven reimagining of one of history’s most intoxicating rivalries,” Alison Hoffman, president of Starz Networks, said in a statement to Deadline. “With Will Sharpe, Paul Bettany and Gabrielle Creevy leading an extraordinary ensemble, the series captures the passion, envy, and genius at the heart of Mozart’s world. Audiences continue to be drawn to Starz because of the power of our premium period dramas, and Amadeus delivers that in spectacular form.”

Shaffer's play takes inspiration from real-world figures, most famously composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, telling a mostly fictional story of intense rivalry between the world-famous musical genius and one of his less-remembered contemporaries, Antonio Salieri. The series, which expands on Shaffer's play, was filmed in Hungary.

The play premiered at London's National in 1979 starring Paul Scofield and Simon Callow, coming to Broadway the following year with Ian McKellen and Tim Curry. Miloš Forman directed a 1984 film version starring F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce, which won eight Academy Awards including Best Picture. The play has continued to flourish in the years since, getting a Broadway revival in 1999 and countless London stagings along with several radio productions. Tony winner Jefferson Mays will star in a production for Pasadena Playhouse later this year.

STV Studios' Two Cities Television produce the TV series in association with Sky Studios. The executive producer is John Griffin with Megan Spanjian as executive producer for Sky Studios, and Michael Jackson and Stephen Wright as executive producers for Two Cities. Barton, Sharpe, Farino, and Bettany also executive produce.
