Anne Washburn's 2012 play Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play is headed to the screen.

Musician and filmmaker Boots Riley (Sorry to Bother You) confirmed on X January 11 that he is currently developing the project, which was softly announced via Washburn's Playbill bio in The Burning Cauldron of Fiery Fire at Off-Broadway's Vineyard Theatre.

Originally commissioned and produced by theatre company The Civilians, Mr. Burns is set in the post-apocalyptic future as civilization rebuilds itself and today's pop culture reemerges as mythology. The work pays tribute to the power and importance of storytelling, culminating in a futuristic recreation of the classic 1993 The Simpsons episode "Cape Feare."

No production timeline or casting has yet been revealed.
