Jaafar Jackson stars in the title role, playing his own uncle.

With MJ The Musical continuing to play on Broadway to full houses, there's another version of the music legend's life story readying its premiere. The biopic Michael just released its first full trailer. Watch it above. The film will be released in cinemas April 24.

The film stars the late pop star's nephew Jaafar Jackson in the title role, with Colman Domingo as Jackson's father Joe Jackson, Nia Long as his mother Katherine Jackson, Jessica Sula as sister LaToya Jackson, Larenz Tate as Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, Laura Harrier as music executive Suzanne de Passe, Kat Graham as Diana Ross, and Miles Teller as Jackson's lawyer John Branca.

The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, is expected to track Jackson's career from the Jackson 5 to his solo career, and will feature the star's hit songs, such as "Billie Jean," "Wanna Be Startin' Something," and "Thriller."

The official synopsis for Michael reads: "Michael is the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known. The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world. Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins."

It is unclear if the film will address the sexual abuse allegations against Jackson, since the film reportedly had to be re-shot due to it depicting one of Jackson's accusers Jordan Chandler (which violated a settlement agreement saying the case would not be dramatized on film).

Tony winner John Logan (Red) wrote the screenplay. The producers are Graham King, and Jackson estate co-executers John Branca and John McClain. David B. Householter is the executive producer.

Michael is not associated with the long-running Broadway hit MJ The Musical, which also charts Jackson's life and career; Pulitzer winner Lynn Nottage wrote that script. MJ celebrated its fourth year on Broadway January 31.
