The first trailer for a new screen version of Shakespeare's Hamlet is out, leaving us with just one question: To watch or not to watch?
Riz Ahmed stars in the new take on the classic tragedy. The film, from director Aneil Karia and screenwriter Michael Lesslie, reimagines the story to focus on a British South Asian family living in modern-day London. The film made its premiere earlier this year at Telluride Film Festival, and will be in U.K. movie theatres February 6, 2026. A U.S. wide release date remains to be announced.
Along with Ahmed as Prince Hamlet, the cast includes Art Malik as Claudius, Joe Alwyn as Laertes, Timothy Spall as Polonius, Morfydd Clark as Ophelia, Sheeba Chaddha as Gertrude, and Avijit Dutt as Hamlet's father.
Universal Pictures is distributing.
