Ordinary Days and Scotland, PA songwriter Adam Gwon and Tony-winning playwright David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly, Golden Child) have joined the Dramatists Guild Council, a group of writers in various career stages that govern the Guild and set its policies.
The two join a group that includes Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Kirsten Childs, Ty Defoe, William Finn, Sheldon Harnick, Michael R. Jackson, Lisa Kron, Tony Kushner, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, among many others.
Both longtime Guild members, Hwang returns to the Council after serving from 1989-2014. Gwon has previously been a DG Fellow, a member of The Dramatist committee, and a teacher of lyric writing for the Guild's institute.
The Guild's Council is led by President Amanda Green, Vice President Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Secretary Kristoffer Diaz, and Treasurer Christine Toy Johnson, all elected from within the Council ranks. The Guild itself is led by Executive Directors Emmanuel Wilson and Ralph Sevush. Wilson was recently named the Guild's first Black Executive Director, and Tari Stratton has also joined the organization as Director of the Dramatists Guild Institute.
The Guild, a national trade association of theatre writers, works to aid dramatists in protecting the artistic and economic integrity of their work.
