Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has written a stage play, The Popinjay Cavalier, that is headed for a premiere in London's West End in early 2027, with dates to be announced. Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment are producing the project, which is planning to be in active development this year.
Press notes are light on details, describing the play as "a sweeping celebration of theatre and its heightened romance."
Two-time Academy Award winner Tarantino is a director, producer, screenwriter, and actor, known for profanity-laden films that center stylized, often graphic violence. His work as a screenwriter and director includes the Kill Bill duology, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Inglorious Basterds. As a performer, Tarantino made his Broadway debut in a 1998 revival of Frederick Knott's Wait Until Dark. It appears that The Popinjay Cavalier could become Tarantino's first major stage writing credit.
