Eric Holmes and Nat Zagree's musical The King's Critique will get another NYC industry reading March 26 via Art Lab Productions.

The invite-only performance will feature a slate of stage favorites performing the new work, including Taylor Iman Jones (Hamilton), Jordan Fisher (Dear Evan Hansen), Raymond J. Lee (Sweeney Todd), Lillias White (Dreamgirls), Matthew Patrick Quinn (Hadestown), Gabi Carrubba (Just in Time), Nyla Sostre (Shucked), Nick Cearley (The Skivvies), Christian Fary (The Office: A Musical Parody), Adam Fane (Titanique), Nick Drake (& Juliet), Timothy H. Lee (Hadestown), Bridget Beirne (That Time of the Year), and Olivia Hardy (Kimberly Akimbo).

The work follows a young woman who endeavors to become the first woman ever on stage, causing a tantrum from the King that leads to a kingdom-wide theatre ban. To fight back, she joins forces with a viciously sarcastic witch and a charming actor. Tiffani Swalley is at the helm of the upcoming presentation, and choreography is by Sheena Laird.

Fisher is also producing the project, with Lisa Dozier Shacket serving as executive producer. Zegree is music directing the upcoming performance, which will feature additional orchestrations and arrangements by Ian Chan. The creative team also includes comedy consultant Kevin Sciretta, sound designer Elisabeth Weidner, assistant director Grace Cutler, and production stage manager Allison Hohman. LDK Productions' Michael Shannon is serving as general manager.

Art Lab previously presented The King's Critique as an industry reading in 2025. A 2025 concept album is available on streaming platforms via Joy Machine Records.
