An invitation-only industry reading of GRUNGE: A Memory Musical will be held in NYC March 27. The new work is written by Leyna d'Ancona and features '90s alternative rock–inspired music by Paul Martin Siegel. Lyrics are by d'Ancona and Siegel.
The musical centers on the discovery of a box of cassette tapes, the remains of a fully produced but never-released 1995 album from fictional indie band Charley Django. Grunge imagines the story behind the almost lost album and where it came from.
The reading will feature performances from Marc Kudisch (Floyd Collins), Morgan Lynne Dudley (Jagged Little Pill), Carey Brown (Ragtime), Brandon Dial (A Raisin in the Sun), and Alaina Surgener (The Housemaid).
Joe Calarco is directing, and Drew Wutke is music director. Nia J. Blizzard is the stage manager, and Evan Bernardin Productions serves as general manager.
