In His Final Week, Jonathan Groff Led Just in Time to the $2 Million Club, and More From Last Week's Broadway Grosses
Grosses were up by more than 5% for the week ending March 29.

In his final week of performances as Bobby Darin in the hit musical Just in Time, Tony winner Jonathan Groff helped the musical join The $2 Million Club.
For the week ending March 29, the biomusical at Circle in the Square brought in a record-breaking $2,066,446, a remarkable feat for any show, but even moreso for a Broadway house that only seats 690 theatregoers. The production also had the highest average ticket price at $362.22, with a top ticket price of $1,477. Groff's fellow Glee cast member, Matthew Morrison, will replace him in the show beginning April 1, after which Jeremy Jordan will become Broadway's newest Bobby Darin starting April 21—hopefully those replacements can replicate Groff's tremendous success.
Two other productions were in The $2 Million Club last week: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which continues to lead the pack, courtesy of a stint from Harry Potter film star Tom Felton ($2,576,038); and the Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning Hamilton ($2,318,897). Rounding out the top five were two other long-running musicals: The Lion King ($1,914,548) and Wicked ($1,785,924).
Overall, the 36 currently running Broadway shows took in $38,657,410, up more than 5% from the previous week, when only 31 productions were playing. Capacity dipped slightly to 93.29%, although attendance rose by nearly 8% with 294,349 theatregoers paying an average ticket price of $131.33.
Compared to this time last season, cumulative grosses are up nearly 7%, and there is even more reason to celebrate. A host of Broadway productions are currently in previews and will likely boost box office figures once they open. Among those previewing shows are Becky Shaw, Cats: The Jellicle Ball, Death of a Salesman, Titaníque, The Fear of 13, Fallen Angels, Beaches, The Rocky Horror Show, and The Lost Boys.
And, it should be noted many new productions have already joined The $1 Million Club: Every Brilliant Thing (featuring Groff's Tony-winning Merrily We Roll Along co-star, Daniel Radcliffe), the starry stage adaptation of Dog Day Afternoon, and the Nathan Lane-Laurie Metcalf-led revival of Death of a Salesman. Two musical revivals that opened earlier this season also brought in healthy grosses: Chess and Ragtime.
Even though it only offered two previews at the Palace, the world premiere musical The Lost Boys played to 100% capacity, bringing in $489,214 for just the two performances. If those grosses continue to hold, the musical has a great chance of flying high (just like its vampire characters) to nearly $2 million a week.
