LIBERATION

Bess Wohl's Liberation Licensing Acquired by Concord Theatricals

Concord Theatricals has acquired worldwide English-language licensing rights for Bess Wohl's Liberation. The play is now available for licensing by professional companies. The work simultaneously tracks two groups of women meeting regularly to talk about their changing lives and the world. In the 1970s, the groups are led by mid-century feminist Lizzie. In modern day, Lizzie's daughter takes up the mantle, ultimately exploring the changing face of activism and what it means to be a woman. The work made its premiere last year Off-Broadway at Roundabout Theatre Company before transferring to the Main Stem.

Finding Neverland Released for Licensing by Music Theatre International

Music Theatre International has released the 2015 Broadway musical Finding Neverland for licensing. Based on the 2004 film and its source material, Allan Knee's 1998 stage play The Man Who Was Peter Pan, Finding Neverland delves into the story behind the creation of J.M. Barrie's iconic boy who wouldn't grow up. The story finds Barrie a struggling playwright who befriends a widowed mother and her four sons, ultimately finding the inspiration for the work that would make him a household name. The musical premiered on Broadway in 2015 playing 565 performances.

Dear Evan Hansen Released for Licensing

Music Theatre International has released the Tony-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen for licensing of new productions. The musical centers on its title character, a teenager who feels invisible until a tragic event shocks his community and thrusts him into the center of a rapidly evolving controversy. The musical opened on Broadway in 2016 following a pre-Broadway tryout at Washington, D.C.'s Arena Stage in 2015 and an Off-Broadway production at Second Stage the following year. The work won six 2017 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The work has since toured the U.S., played London's West End, and made the jump to the big screen with a 2019 film adaptation.

Music Theatre International Is Now Licensing a Revised Version of Frank Wildhorn's Wonderland

Music Theatre International has released a newly revised version of Frank Wildhorn musical Wonderland. Inspired by Lewis Caroll's Alice in Wonderland, the musical tracks an adult Alice returning to the fantastical land of Wonderland after her life falls apart. Back through the looking glass, she again encounters the Cheshire Cat, a dotty Queen of Hearts, and the Mad Hatter, and ultimately learns the power of new love. The work played a brief Broadway run in 2011. The new version reflects an iteration that premiered at Utah's Tuacahn Center for the Arts in 2022.


9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL JR.

9 to 5 JR. Musical Now Available for Licensing

Pour yourself a cup of ambition—but junior-sized! Music Theatre International has released 9 to 5 The Musical JR. for licensing. The new 60-minute adaptation of the 2009 musical has been created expressly for performers under the age of 18. The musical—which features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton (including the chart-topping title song) and a book by Patricia Resnick—is adapted from the 1980 film of the same name, following three female coworkers who work to liberate their 1970s workplace from the tyranny of their boss.

Ryan Spahn's Inspired By True Events Joins Concord Theatricals Licensing Catalogue

Ryan Spahn's backstage comedy-thriller Inspired By True Events has joined the licensing catalogue of Concord Theatricals and will be published via its Samuel French imprint. Set in a community theatre green room in Rochester, New York, the work follows a group of actors getting ready to play to a full house the night after opening to rave reviews. When their star actor arrives in a dangerously unhinged state, they must improvise on and off stage in ways they could not have imagined. The work made its world premiere Off-Broadway in 2024 via Out of the Box Theatrics, who staged it in the theatre's green room for an intimate audience of 40 people per performance.


WILD HEART

Joan of Arc Musical Wild Heart Released for Licensing by Theatrical Rights Worldwide

Theatrical Rights Worldwide has added a new jukebox musical inspired by the story of Joan of Arc, Wild Heart, to its licensing catalogue. Featuring a book by Chelsea Marcantel, the musical puts the story of the historical icon to a soundtrack of modern pop songs made famous by Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Andra Day, Weezer, Melissa Etheridge, and more.

School of Rock Will Get a Young Actors Edition

Concord Theatricals has released a new Young Actors Edition of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Julian Fellowes, and Glenn Slater's School of Rock - The Musical. Adapted by iTheatrics, the revised version of the 2015 musical has been shortened to a one-hour running time and tailored to be performed by a complete cast that's under 18. Adapted from Mike White's 2003 film, the musical follows a failed rock star moonlighting as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school who turns his class of straight-laced kids into a mind-blowing rock band.

Heidi Schreck's Uncle Vanya Adaptation Will Be Licensed by Concord Theatricals

Heidi Schreck's translation and adaptation of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya has joined the licensing catalogue of Concord Theatricals, newly part of its Samuel French imprint. This new version debuted on Broadway via Lincoln Center Theater in 2024, starring Steve Carrell, William Jackson Harper, Alfred Molina, and Alison Pill. First published in 1897, Uncle Vanya centers on its title character, a man disappointed in having spent his life managing the family farm while his brother-in-law pursued an academic career.

The Outsiders to Be Licensed by Concord Theatricals

Concord Theatricals has secured exclusive worldwide secondary stage licensing rights to the Tony Award-winning musical The Outsiders. Currently running at the Jacobs Theatre on Broadway where the musical opened April 11, 2024, The Outsiders is adapted from S.E. Hinton's novel and Francis Ford Coppola's film adaptation. Set in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, the musical follows Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and their chosen family of "outsiders," who are in a fight for survival and a quest for purpose in a world that may never accept them. The Outsiders won the Best Musical Tony Award as well as Best Direction of a Musical (Danya Taymor), Lighting Design (Brian MacDevitt and Hana S. Kim), and Sound Design (Cody Spencer) at the 2024 Tony Awards.


HAMILTON TEEN EDITION

Hamilton Is Coming to a High School Near You in 2028

Concord Theatricals has picked up licensing rights for Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony- and Pulitzer-winning mega-hit Hamilton. And while the Broadway production and tours show no signs of stopping (meaning don't expect any new regional Hamiltons any time soon), the company is working on a Teen Edition that will be available for young performers beginning in 2028. Yes—Hamilton will soon be headed to a high school near you.

Theatrical Rights Worldwide Could Let You Produce BOOP!

Theatrical Rights Worldwide has acquired licensing rights for Broadway's BOOP! The Musical. The work, inspired by the classic animated character, played a brief Broadway run last season. The musical follows its titular character, who travels from her cartoon black-and-white world into modern-day New York City to learn a little bit more about herself and bring inspiration to jaded New Yorkers. The Broadway production received two 2025 Tony Award nominations, for Jerry Mitchell's choreography (Mitchell also directed) and Jasmine Amy Rogers' leading performance in the title role.

Music Theatre International Acquires Maybe Happy Ending for Licensing

Maybe Happy Ending, the 2025 Tony winner for Best Musical, has joined the licensing library of Music Theatre International. With the work's Broadway run continuing at the Belasco Theatre, the work is currently not available for new productions. The musical follows two South Korea-based Helperbots that have been deemed obsolete. The pair form an unlikely bond, setting off a surprising and romantic adventure. Park and Aronson wrote the show simultaneously in both English and Korean, premiering the show in 2016 in South Korea before bringing it stateside, first to Atlanta's Alliance in 2020 and a Broadway bow in 2024. The musical was the most Tony-winning show of last season, with Aronson and Park also winning for the score, book, and Aronson's orchestrations



PIRATES! THE PENZANCE MUSICAL

Pirates! The Penzance Musical Joins Theatrical Rights Worldwide Catalogue for Licensing

Last season's jazz-infused reimagining of Gilbert and Sullivan, Pirates! The Penzance Musical, will be licensed by Theatrical Rights Worldwide. Adapted from the operetta masters' The Pirates of Penzance, the work features a book by Tony winner Rupert Holmes, shifting the action to the legendary port city New Orleans. While Sullivan's score remains mostly intact, a new set of orchestrations with Caribbean and French Quarter influences were written by Joseph Joubert and Daryl Waters, also interpolating some Gilbert and Sullivan tunes from other works.
