Julia Cho Will Receive The PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award
Sue Jean Kim will perform an excerpt from the playwright's work Aubergine at the ceremony.

Playwright Julia Cho will receive this year's PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award March 31 at The Town Hall in New York City. Novelist Edwidge Danticat will also be honored with a literary career achievement award, the PEN/Nabokov Award for Achievement in International Literature.
Presenters at the 62nd annual awards will include David Henry Hwang, Emmy Rossum, Ali Velshi, Dan Charnas, Qian Julie Wang, Cornelius Eady, Marlon James, and Clara Bingham. The evening will also feature musical performances by Amber Iman and the Ulysses Owens Jr. Band, as well as a world premiere reading from Edwidge Danticat’s forthcoming novel, Dèy, performed by Pascale Armand.
To honor Cho, Sue Jean Kim will perform an excerpt from Cho’s play Aubergine, specially directed by Obie Award winner Eric Ting (The Far Country, The Comeuppance). Kim previously appeared in Cho’s play Office Hour at the Public Theater and in Aubergine at Playwrights Horizons in 2016.
The Literary Awards celebrates writers and translators in an awards ceremony that is open to the public. The list of the 50 finalists, whose work spans fiction, nonfiction, poetry, biography, essays, science writing, and translation, along with the judges for each award, can be found here.
