Video Disney's Better Nate Than Ever Trailer Takes Audiences to Broadway

The coming-of-age movie about a young performer is based on the books by Broadway alum Tim Federle.

Disney has shared the trailer for its upcoming film Better Nate Than Ever, based on the coming-of-age book series by Broadway alum Tim Federle. The film is set to be released on streamer Disney+ April 1.

Seventh grader Nate Foster, played by Rueby Wood, dreams of performing on Broadway and catches a bus to the city with his friend Libby, played by Aria Brooks, to crash an open audition. There he meets his lost aunt and struggling actress Heidi, played as previously reported by Friends star Lisa Kudrow. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star Joshua Bassett plays Nate's older brother Anthony in a cast that also includes two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz.

The film is directed by Federle, whose Broadway credits include performing in productions of Gypsy and The Little Mermaid and penning the revised book to Tuck Everlasting. Federle is best known on screen for creating and serving as showrunner on Disney+'s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Marc Platt (WickedThe Band's Visit) serves as producer.

Broadway fans will also recognize the New Amsterdam Theatre where some filming took place. The historic venue is currently home to Disney's Aladdin.
