Industry News SDCF Receives $150K Grant; Applications for Theatres to Host Resident Artists Open

The Charles and Lucille King Family Foundation's grant will support Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation's Lloyd Richards New Futures Residency Program.

The not-for-profit Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) has received a $150,000 grant from The Diana King Memorial Fund, which is presented by The Charles and Lucille King Family Foundation. The grant will provide support for the organization's annual Lloyd Richards New Futures Residency Programs for mid-career BIPOC directors and choreographers.

The year-long residency fosters artists interested in artistic and institutional leadership and seeks to create new alliances between such artists and artistic directors working to increase diversity, equity, and access within American theatre. Participants in the program receive $40,000 and access to health insurance along with housing and travel assistance. They will also direct or choreograph a production at the host theatre within three years of completing the program.

Applications from host theatres for this year's program are now open and will be accepted until  6 PM April 17.

The Charles and Lucille King Family Foundation was established in 1988 by Charles and Lucille King's daughter Diana King. Also supporting the Lloyd Richards New Futures Residency also comes are the Miranda Family Fund, Jujamcyn Theaters, Judi & Douglas Krupp, and Concord Theatricals. Further support is provided through the SDCF fellowship funds named for Shepard and Mildred Traube and Sir John Gielgud, as well as individual donors.
