Original Operation Mincemeat Cast Final Week Leads to Top Box Office of Entire Run, and More From the Blizzard Broadway Grosses

Even with a show cancellation, the show's $1.1 million box office is the top take of its run at the Golden.

The original West End and Broadway cast of Operation Mincemeat gave their final performances in the musical on the Main Stem last week, and theatre fans eager to catch them one last time drove the box office to its highest take of the entire run. This is perhaps extra notable given the blizzard cancellation of what was scheduled to be the cast's final performance, the evening of February 22 (they ended up live streaming a concert of the show's score from the Laurie Beechman Theatre instead). Mincemeat took in $1.1 million last week.

Otherwise, grosses otherwise softened slightly last week compared to the week prior, dropping by just over 6% to $31,554,841 over the 28 currently running shows. That figure does represent impact from last weekend's major blizzard, a storm that saw the cancellation of Sunday evening performances of & JulietAll OutChicagoOh, Mary!Operation MincemeatStranger Things: The First ShadowThe Book of Mormon, and Wicked. It's also impossible to say if or how much news of the coming storm might have affected potential same-day ticket sales throughout the weekend.

Fortunately, as of time of publication, this should be the majority of the storm cancellation impacts. Next week's grosses data, reflecting performances this week, will only be affected by the Monday evening cancellation of five shows: ChicagoEvery Brilliant ThingThe Great GatsbyHarry Potter and the Cursed Child, and SIX: The Musical. Long-runner Chicago has already added an additional performance to try and make up for the lost performance.

Last week's top five continued to be dominated by Harry Potter and Hamilton, followed by The Lion KingWicked, and Stranger Things (newly back on the list after a week off to film a live capture for Netflix).

We also got our newest show of the spring season as Every Brilliant Thing played its first two previews over at the Hudson Theatre. If it's able to keep up the performance from those first two showings, we could well have Broadway's newest star-driven hit on our hands. The Daniel Radcliffe solo show brought in $304,427 over two previews—notably one of which was only added to the schedule and put on sale a little over a week before! If those numbers hold for a full, eight-performance schedule, Every Brilliant Thing could be the second highest-grossing show on Broadway. The production comes to the Main Stem after a summer run in London's West End, and that staging starred a succession of stars. Only Radcliffe has been announced for Broadway so far, but this early box office success makes one wonder if we might see a similar setup in New York.
