Harry Potter, Hamilton Continue to Dominate, and More From Last Week's Broadway Grosses

It's all about that "H" right now on Broadway, with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Hamilton continuing to top the charts of high grossers. Harry Potter has been enjoying renewed interest and rising ticket prices thanks to current star Tom Felton, reprising his film role as Draco Malfoy in the play. Just a few months ago, the show's average ticket price was sitting in the low hundreds or below. Since Felton joined the company, that average has parked around $200, or $209.48 last week.

Hamilton also seemed to get a lot of renewed interest from its own stunt cast return, with Tony-winning original star Leslie Odom Jr. returning to his role as Aaron Burr last year. But that ticket-buying frenzy has stuck around even after his departure. The show went for an average ticket price of $205.20 last week.

Both shows were the number one and two top grossers last week, Harry Potter with $2.68 million and Hamilton with $2.2 million. The highest ticket average, however, went to Just in Time, at a jaw-dropping $259.27. Unfortunately, the hit Bobby Darin jukebox musical is playing the Circle in the Square, one of Broadway's smaller houses. If they were in a larger house like Harry Potter's Lyric or Hamilton's Richard Rodgers, the show would easily be at the top of the charts if tickets were still going for that sum.

In other good news, grosses rise cumulatively over the 27 currently running shows, which brought in a collective $33.58 million—a more-than 10% increase compared to the week prior. Attendance was actually down by nearly 4%, no great surprise with two less shows available for people to see. Grosses still went up because people were paying more. Broadway Week and its two-for-one ticket offers ended halfway through the week of data, which helped average ticket price across all shows rise from $117.51 in the final full week of Broadway Week to $136.10 last week.

There's lots to look forward to in the weeks ahead. This week, we get Stranger Things back after a dark week while the show was filmed for release on Netflix, and lots of shows are waiting in the wings to get this spring started in earnest. Onward and upward!
