Playbill Universe Reviews: Here's What Critics Think of Movie Musical Spirited Starring Will Farrell and Ryan Reynolds

Tony-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul wrote original songs for the modern twist on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

Reviews are rolling in for Apple Original Films' holiday film Spirited starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds. The movie will be released in theatres November 11 with a global streaming release on Apple TV+ set for November 18. Check out the trailer above.

Based on the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol, the new musical stars Ferrell as the Ghost of Christmas Present who visits one dark soul each Christmas Eve, but this year's "Scrooge," played by Reynolds, turns the tables and has the ghost reexamining his own past, present, and future. Spirited also stars Octavia Spencer, Sunita Mani, Tony nominee Patrick Page (Hadestown), Joe Tippett (Waitress), Marlow Barkley, and Jen Tullock.

The movie, directed by Sean Anders and written by Anders and John Morris, features original songs by Dear Evan Hansen's Tony-winning lyricist and composer, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Choreography is by Chloe Arnold, Emmy-nominated for her work on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
