A Vicious Circle

Jack Canfora's new play A Vicious Circle will receive an invite-only industry reading at the Algonquin Hotel May 18. The work will follow the infamous friendship between Algonquin Round Table members Dorthy Parker and Robert Benchley.

The reading will feature Jeffrey Bean (Dublin Carol) as Robert and Eleanor Handley (The Hard Problem) as Dorthy, and will be followed by a cocktail reception.

The Algonquin Round Table was a group of New York City–based writers and creatives who gathered at Algonquin Hotel and referred to themselves as "The Vicious Circle." Both Parker and Benchley were among the renowned regulars, which also included critic Alexander Woollcott, producer Brock Pemberton, and novelist Edna Ferber. The show is described as a dramedy that will give insight into the "ambitions, pride, and loneliness that sharpened the tongues of two of history’s greatest wits."

The reading will feature direction by Heather Arnson, costume consulting by designer David C. Woolard, sound design for the cocktail hour by Lindsay Jones, and producing by Evan Bergman.
