Broadway alum James Corden will leave The Late Late Show mid-2023 after stepping in as host in 2015. The talk show famously contains the fan-favorite musical segments Carpool Karaoke, Crosswalk: the Musical, and Drop the Mic, which sees his various celebrity guests performing in different capacities.
In the show's April 28 episode, Corden addressed his departure. "I've decided to sign for one more year on the show and that this will be my last year hosting The Late Late Show." He said this final year will be the "best year," promising more sketches and surprises.
"This has been the hardest decision I've ever had to make," Corden added. "The fact that we get to try and entertain you, and spend time to you is an absolute privilege for me and every single person who makes this show." The talk show host ended his comments by saying "here's to the next 12 months," insinuating that his final episode will be timed to April or May of 2023.
Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose, who co-starred with Cordon in The Prom, commented on the news via Twitter. She wrote, "I really love @JKCorden and I can’t wait to see what he does next."

In addition to hosting the show, the English performer has made a name for himself on stage and screen. He co-wrote and starred in the British sitcom Gavin & Stacey and made a guest appearance in Doctor Who. He has hosted the Tony Awards and starred in the movie musical adaptations of Into the Woods, Cats, and The Prom.
His theatre credits include starring in The History Boys and One Man, Two Guvnors. Corden followed the latter from London to Broadway, playing in the National Theatre, the UK tour, and the West End before winning the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play for its run at the Music Box Theatre.
