Netflix has released a first look at the adaptation of Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin's Matilda The Musical, based on the 1988 children's novel by Roald Dahl.
Newcomer Alisha Weir plays Matilda Wormwood, a curious little girl with a sharp mind and a vivid imagination, and the worst parents in the world. Watch the teaser trailer above.
The short clip includes a snippet of the song "Revolting Children" from the musical, which has successfully played in New York City, New Zealand, Korea, Toronto, and London's West End, where it continues since opening in 2011. The Broadway production took home five Tony Awards during its run, including a Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre nod for the four actors who shared the title role.
Also featured in the screen adaptation is Emma Thompson as villainous school leader Miss Trunchbull, Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey, and Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough (MCC's The Pride) as Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, respectively.
The film is directed by the Tony Award-winning director of the stage production Matthew Warchus, with a screenplay by Kelly. Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan, Jon Finn, and Luke Kelly are producing.
