Regional News Tony Nominee Hunter Foster to Direct Theatre Aspen's Jersey Boys This Summer

Sondheim, Styne, and Laurents' Gypsy has also been announced as part of the Colorado theatre's summer season.

Theatre Aspen has announced its 2022 summer season line-up will include Gypsy and Jersey Boys, in addition to the return of its developmental one-person show festival Solo Flights. The 39th season is set to run June 28-September 15.

From June 28 through July 23, Gypsy will play at the Hurst Theatre. Featuring a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, the production will be directed by Hamilton resident director Hannah Ryan and include music direction by Andy Einhorn (Broadway's Hello, Dolly!)

Following GypsyJersey Boys will run August 3-24. The musical will be directed by Tony nominee Hunter Foster. This season will be Foster's fifth consecutive summer at Theatre Aspen. Joining him on the creative team are Ray Mercer as choreographer and Eric Alsford as music director. Marshall Brickman and Rick Alice wrote the book, Bob Gaudio wrote the music, and Bob Crewe wrote the lyrics for Jersey Boys.

The Solo Flights festival will run September 10-15. More information on titles will be announced at a later date. Overlapping with the MainStage season, Theatre Aspen Education will present Twelfth Night July 7-9, Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach JR. July 21-23, and Bright Star August 11-14.

Rounding out the summer season is the annual Season Sneak Peek June 20 at the Hurst Theatre, the fourth season of the Summer Cabaret Series with performances at the Hotel Jerome, and The Sound of Music in Concert presented in collaboration with the Aspen Music Festival and School. The concert, presented by special arrangement with The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. Performances will be held July 25 and 26 in the Benedict Music Tent. The Annual Summer Gala is set for July 30.
