Paul Tazewell in the Crafting Character: The Costumes of Paul Tazewell Exhibit

From winning Tony Awards for the iconic costumes in Hamilton and Death Becomes Her, to winning an Oscar for Wicked, Paul Tazewell is nonstop. Theatre fans can currently see his creations onstage in New York on Broadway. But if you want an even closer look, then get yourself to Chicago.

Crafting Character: The Costumes of Paul Tazewell, the first exhibition dedicated to Tazewell’s artistry, is on view at Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. The special exhibit includes Glinda's pink bubble dress from Wicked (as worn by Ariana Grande), Anita's yellow dress from the West Side Story film (as worn by Oscar winner Ariana Debose), the Schuyler Sister costumes from Hamilton, and Janelle Monae’s red carpet suit for the 2025 Met Gala. The exhibit is on display until September 7.

It coincides with Hamilton tour landing in Chicago at the CIBC Theatre March 4–April 26.

“This exhibition is a great privilege and honor,” Tazewell said in a statement. “Being invited to share my work in a way that will be engaging and immersive, and to be able to invite others into that experience means so much to me.”
