The creative team is now set for the new Dave Malloy and Jen Silverman musical Black Swan, which will conclude the American Repertory Theater's current season, with performances set to begin at Cambridge, Massachusetts' Loeb Drama Center May 26 prior to an official opening June 3.
As previously reported, the A.R.T.-developed adaptation of the Oscar-nominated psychological thriller (with a story by Andres Heinz) will feature music and lyrics by Obie winner Malloy (Moby-Dick, Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812), a book by Guggenheim Fellow Silverman (The Roommate, Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties), direction and choreography by Tony winner Sonya Tayeh (Moulin Rouge! The Musical), and music supervision and direction by Or Matias (Moby-Dick).
The production will also feature scenography by Tony nominee AMP, featuring Marissa Todd; costume design by Emmy winner Shiona Turini; lighting design by Drama Desk winner Isabella Byrd; sound design by Tony winner Kai Harada; hair and wig design by Oscar winner Mia Neal; makeup design by Sarah Cimino; illusion design by Tony winner Chris Fisher and Skylar Fox; blood design by Lillis Meeh; and fight and intimacy direction by Rocío Mendes.
Casting, by C12's Stephen Kopel and Jillian Cimini, will be announced at a later date.
The new musical follows dancer Nina as pressure builds, boundaries blur, and reality begins to slip as she strives to rise from the ballet corps to the lead role in Swan Lake. Natalie Porter won the Academy Award for her performance in the 2010 film.
Benita de Wit serves as the associate director, with Camden Gonzales as the associate choreographer, James Nguyen and AC Gottlieb the associate costume designers, Paul Toben the associate lighting designer, and Owen Meadows the associate sound designer.
Genevieve Kersh is the production stage manager.
Performances are currently scheduled through June 28. Black Swan is presented by special arrangement with Buena Vista Theatrical.
American Repertory Theater at Harvard University is led by Terrie and Bradley Bloom Artistic Director Diane Paulus.
