Tony Award nominee Conrad Ricamora (Oh, Mary!) will star alongside Julie Lake (Orange Is the New Black) in Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage at Le Petit Theatre next month. Le Petit Artistic Director A.J. Allegra will direct the production, running at the New Orleans venue April 30–May 17.
Ricamora and Lake will star as Alan and Annette Raleigh, alongside Marie Lovejoy and Joshua Mark Sienkiewicz as Veronica and Michael Novak.
In God of Carnage, a playground altercation between 11-year-old-boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses and the rum flows, tensions emerge and the gloves come off. The play won the Olivier Award for Best Comedy and the Tony Award for Best Play.
The upcoming production will feature scenic designs by Bethany Lee, costume design by Yalani Warren, lighting design by Diane Baas, sound design by Jamie Doyle, props design by Deborah Bommer-Morrissey, and projection design by Bruno Doria.
"God of Carnage is a visceral kind of play. Its comedy and its pathos both come from places rooted deep inside the human body, almost at its animal-like core. That is what I love about the play...It is a piece that starts civilly, courteously, and ends with such raw, animalistic emotion that is both hysterical and terrifying at once. These characters are stripped raw to their essence, and the result is totally delightful to witness. This is a playgoing experience that no patron can forget," said Allegra in a statement.
