Arena Stage has found a trio of stage favorites to go chasing waterfalls in its upcoming TLC musical CrazySexyCool, set to make its world premiere at the Washington, D.C. theatre June 12-August 9, as previously announced. Opening night will be June 26.
Leading the company will be Holli' Gabrielle Conway as Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Jade Milan as Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Stoney B. Woods as Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas.
“The moment we saw Holli’, Jade, and Stoney bring our music to life onstage, we felt an immediate connection,” says Watkins in a statement. “They carry our story with authenticity and grace, and watching them perform is genuinely captivating. We can’t wait for audiences to experience CrazySexyCool – The TLC Musical," adds Thomas.
The project will explore the story behind the iconic recording group's rise to fame, set to a soundtrack of their best loved songs, including "Waterfalls," "No Scrubs," "Creep," and "Unpretty." Kwame Kwei-Armah is writing and directing, leading a creative team that also includes choreographer Chloe O. Davis (Gypsy) and music supervisor and arranger David Holcenberg. Orchestrations will be by Holcenberg and Omar Edwards.
Additional casting and creative team members are to be announced. Arena is producing by special arrangement with Bill Diggins.
