Anna Ouyang Moench's Man of God begins its run at Williamstown Theatre Festival July 5. The production, produced in association with Los Angeles' Geffen Playhouse where it previously ran, plays the Nikos Stage through July 22.
Featuring the same cast and creative team as its Los Angeles run, the production stars Shirley Chen as Samantha, Emma Galbraith as Jen, Erin Rae Li as Mimi, Albert Park as Pastor, and Ji-young Yoo as Kyung-Hwa.
Directed by Maggie Burrows, Man of God is set during a mission trip to Bangkok. The comedic feminist thriller follows four girls participating in a Korean Christian girls' youth group as they deal with discovering a hidden camera in their hotel bathroom, placed there by their pastor. As the four respond to this invasion in their own ways, their shared rage and disillusionment lead them to take action against the always-present male gaze.
The creative team includes scenic designer Se Oh, costume designer Denitsa Bliznakova, lighting designer Lap Chi Chu, fight director Thomas Isao Morinaka, intimacy director Mia Schachter, production stage manager Elizabeth A. Brohm, and casting director Phyllis Schuringa. The production features original music and sound design by Jonathan Snipes.
Man of God made its world premiere in 2019 at Los Angeles' David Henry Hwang Theatre at the Union Center of the Arts. Williamstown Theatre Festival has also announced its programming will include Alex Edelman's Just for Us, James Naughton's Jimmy Naughton & Friends benefit concert, Most Happy in Concert starring Mary Testa, Harrison David Rivers' we are continuous, along with the return of its play reading series.
