San Diego's La Jolla Playhouse has announced the world premiere of La Lucha, an immersive experience from David Israel Reynoso (Sleep No More) and his company Optika Moderna. La Lucha is presented in partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) as part of La Jolla's Without Walls series. Previews will run April 27-30 with the run beginning at MCASD's Joan and Irwin Jacobs Building May 11.
La Lucha dives into the world of Lucha Libre with all the wrestling thrills and backstage secrets of the world of professional mask-wearing and high-flying Mexican wrestlers. Audiences will find themselves either in the middle of the action or ringside cheering on the heroes and villains.
MCASD's Director and CEO Kathryn Kanjo said in a statement, “The artistic production evokes a story of love, loss, and honor through the trope of Mexican wrestling, subject matter which resonates in this binational region.”
La Jolla's Without Walls series offers immersive and site-specific works that push beyond the physical boundaries of the Playhouse.
