Welcome to the Rock! Previews are underway for Paper Mill Playhouse's reimagined production of the Tony-nominated musical Come From Away, which will officially open at the New Jersey venue February 8. Get a first look at the limited engagement, which continues through March 1, in the gallery below.
Directed and choreographed by Richard J. Hinds, this production features a cast of actors, who also play instruments live: Jeannette Bayardelle (Girl from the North Country, & Juliet) as Beverley/Annette, Andréa Burns (The Notebook, In the Heights) as Diane, John El-Jor (We Live In Cairo) as Kevin J./Ali, Nick Gaswirth (Ragtime) as Oz, Lisa Howard (It Shoulda Been You) as Beulah, Lisa Helmi Johanson (POTUS) as Janice, Kent M. Lewis (Billy Elliot) as Nick/Doug, James Moye (Bull Durham, Tootsie) as Claude, Jason Tyler Smith (Come From Away) as Bob, David Socolar (Company) as Kevin T./Garth, Erica Spyres (Carousel) as Bonnie, and Rema Webb (Unmasked, The Music Man) as Hannah.
Understudies Molly Coyne, Travis Darghali, Brandi Knox, and Matthew Whennell-Clark complete the company. Casting is by ARC.
Come From Away, with music, lyrics, and a book by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, opened on Broadway March 12, 2017, going on to receive seven 2017 Tony nominations, including Best Musical, subsequently winning the Tony for Christopher Ashley's direction. The work, which played its final Broadway performance in October 2022, tells the true story of 7,000 air passengers stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The creative team also includes music director Sam Groisser, scenic designer Nate Bertone, costume designer Michelle J. Li, lighting designer Paige Seber, hair, wig, and makeup designer Emilia Martin, and sound designer Kevin Heard. Patricia L. Grabb is the production stage manager. Casting is by ARC.
