Casting is now set for the new musical Starstruck, which will make its world premiere next month at the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, Pennsylvania.
Lorin Latarro (The Who's Tommy, Chess) will direct and choreograph the Cyrano-inspired musical, which will play the Pennsylvania venue February 19–March 21 with an official opening night February 28.
The new musical features a book by Beth Malone (Fun Home) and Mary Ann Stratton, and music and lyrics by Emily Saliers (of the Indigo Girls).
Leading the cast will be Tony-nominated co-creator Malone (Fun Home) as Cyd DeBerg, Krysta Rodriguez (Smash) as Roxanne Cooley, and Sam Gravitte (Wicked) as Chris, joined by Danielle Lee Greaves (Parade) as Sunny, Scott Stangland (Dead Outlaw) as J.D., Sandra Valls (Real Women Have Curves) as Crash, Donald Corren (Souvenir) as Woody, Sydney Patrick (Kinky Boots national tour) as Linda, Nathan Quay Thomas, and Elana Cantor.
Spinning off the story of Cyrano de Bergerac, Starstruck follows Cyd DeBerg in the small town of Sawtooth, Idaho, as she aims to create the first International Dark Sky Reserve in the United States—against the wishes of her fellow townspeople. But soon, Cyd finds herself in an unlikely love triangle.
The creative team also includes scenic designer Beowulf Boritt, costume designer Sophia Choi, hair designer J. Jared Janas, lighting designer Paige Seber, sound designer Brian Ronan, projection designer S. Katy Tucker, music director Bryan Perri, and orchestrator, arranger, and music supervisor Tom Kitt. Tyler Crow is production stage manager. Casting is by Paul Hardt.
Queer icons Glennon Doyle, Abby Wambach, and Tig Notaro recently joined the producing team as executive producers, marking the theatrical producing debuts for all three. They join producer Kevin Ryan (Ragtime, Gypsy), with additional developmental support provided by InMaat.
