A single from Paradise Square's upcoming Broadway cast recording has been released. Listen to the show-stopping number "Let It Burn" sung by Joaquina Kalukango in the video above.
Kalukango performed the song at the 2022 Tony Awards ceremony and garnered a standing ovation from the crowd. The performer later took home the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for her performance as Nelly O'Brien in the work.
Paradise Square is directed by Moisés Kaufman and choreographed by Bill. T. Jones. The story takes place during the Civil War and tells the story of Irish immigrants and Black Americans. In addition to Kalukango, the musical features Chilina Kennedy, John Dossett, Matt Bogart, Kevin Dennis, Nathaniel Stampley, A.J. Shively, and Sidney DuPont in its 40-member ensemble cast.
As previously announced, the album was recorded the during the final two weeks of April. Further information about its digital and physical release is expected soon. The recording is produced by Grammy winners Jason Howland and Billy Jay Stein, known for their collaboration on Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Garth H. Drabinsky executive produces with Craig Haffner, Sherry Wright, and Jeffrey A. Sine as co-executive producers.
The musical was conceived by Black 47 frontman Larry Kirwan. Christina Anderson, Craig Lucas, and Kirwan penned the musical's book to a score with music by Howland, lyrics by Nathan Tysen and Masi Asare, and additional music by Kirwan.
The creative team continues with staging by Alex Sanchez; music supervision, direction, and orchestrations by Howland; scenic design by Allen Moyer; costume design by Toni-Leslie James; lighting design by Donald Holder; sound design by Jon Weston; and projection design by Wendall K.
