Katerina McCrimmon, who starred as Fanny Brice in the recent national tour of Funny Girl, has released a cover of the Cole Porter classic “Night and Day,” which can be enjoyed in the video above.
The Porter standard is the first single from her forthcoming debut jazz album, Kat’s Out of the Bag!, which will be released April 17, produced by Paul Hannah.
About her first single McCrimmon says in a statement, “From the very first bass lick, our version of ‘Night and Day’ teases the listener and invites them in. I knew I wanted Kat’s Out of the Bag! to have its own distinct personality that mirrors my own: cheeky and fun, but still deeply rooted in tradition.”
Though best known for her work in musical theatre, including the title role in the Muny's summer 2025 production of Evita, McCrimmon has long gravitated toward jazz. “Jazz has always occupied a unique place for me,” she explains. “It’s playful, sensual, and alive. It continually invites you to search rather than settle.”
Kat’s Out of the Bag! was recorded live over two days at 800 East Studios in Atlanta. Other tracks include "Under My Skin," "I Fall in Love Too Easily," "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered," and more.
“Jazz can sometimes feel sophisticated or unapproachable from the outside,” McCrimmon adds. “But it’s playful, physical, and deeply human. I hope listeners feel there’s room for them in this music. If the record encourages someone to listen a little closer or follow a thread of curiosity, then I’ve done what I set out to do.”

McCrimmon will also be seen Off-Broadway later this season in the premiere of the new musical BIGFOOT! at New York City Center Stage I.
