Olympic-themed musical The (Disaster) Marathon of 1904 has released a single to all major streaming platforms to mark the February 6 opening of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. Hear Hazbin Hotel star Blake Roman sing "To Be Remembered" in the music video above.
The musical, with a book by Tyler Joseph Ellis and music and lyrics by Jacob Ryan Smith and Daniel Mertzlufft, takes inspiration from the marathon at the first modern Olympics in 1904, a disastrous event that ended up seeing athletes drinking poison, running amidst active traffic, and hitchhiking across St. Louis. "To Be Remembered" is sung by American runner Frederick Lorz, exploring the importance of legacy.
“This song lives at the intersection of comedy and sincerity,” says Smith and Mertzlufft in a joint statement. “It’s about wanting your life to mean something, even if the world remembers you for all the wrong reasons.”
“The song asks for everything,” adds Roman. “It’s funny, vulnerable, and strangely hopeful all at once. Getting to be part of its first release has been incredibly meaningful.”
The track also features vocals from Katy Geraghty, Aaron Robinson, Kay Sibal, Cameron Sirian, and Chani Wereley. Music production and orchestrations are by August Eriksmoen, with videography and editing by Rebecca J. Michelson. The track was recorded at Artist House, with engineering by Dan MacDonald.
The work was the winner of the Broadway Shark Tank at Open Jar Studios, and is a recipient of the Johnny Mercer Writers Grove Retreat at Goodspeed Musicals, with more developmental work set for next week.
