Orville Peck brought a bit of the stage into the studio for his new EP Appaloosa, out now.

The country singer, who starred at the Emcee in the most recent Broadway revival of Cabaret earlier this year, tucked an acoustic cover of "Maybe This Time" from the Kander and Ebb musical into his tracklist. Peck played the Emcee from March 31 through July 20, 2025, marking his Broadway debut.

Prior to his career as a captivating country music enigma, Peck studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, performing as a Kit Kat Club boy in his 20s and making his West End debut in the farce Peter Pan Goes Wrong (although his real name was concealed, even then). The persona of Peck was born in 2018, with his first album, 2019's Pony, immediately garnering attention in the alternative country space. He has since released two more studio albums, 2022's Bronco, and 2024's Stampede, and four EP's prior to Appaloosa.

Known for appearing in his trademark black fringed mask at all public performances, Peck caused quite a stir during his run in Cabaret, performing mask-free for the first time since he rocketed to stardom. Said Peck at the time, "The Emcee has been my dream role since I was a teenager. The nature of the character allows for complete freedom of individual expression. It can be portrayed through such a vast range of emotions, perspectives, and performance styles. That kind of freedom is every actor's dream. I truly cannot believe I’m getting to make my Broadway debut in one of my favorite shows and in probably my favorite role in all of musical theatre. I grew up in the theatre. I was a working actor and a dancer for many years before I started making music. I did the hustle, and the struggle, for a long time, trying to make things happen for myself. But it taught me so much of who I am as a performer and a person, so it feels very full circle to be making a return to it at this point in my career."

Peck's cover of "Maybe This Time" is available on all streaming platforms now.
