The Verdict Reviews: What Do Critics Have to Say About Off-Broadway's This Beautiful Future?

The play about two young lovers during WWII opened at Cherry Lane Theater September 20.

Reviews are coming in for Cherry Lane Theater's production of Rita Kalnejais' This Beautiful Future, which opened Off-Broadway September 20. Performances began September 10, and are set to run through October 30.

Set during World War II, two teenagers, French 17-year-old Elodie and 16-year-old German soldier Otto, take shelter from a divided world. They meet secretly for one night, falling in love while safe from the world outside. Francesca Carpanini (All My Sons) and Uly Schlesinger (HBO Max's Genera+ion) star as the young lovers, joined by Tony nominee Austin Pendleton (The Little Foxes, The Minutes) and Angelina Fiordellisi. Jack Serio directs.

Casting is by Taylor Williams, and general management is by Mott/Fischer Productions.

The play previously enjoyed a sold out run at Theaterlab earlier this before returning to Off-Broadway. It made its world premiere in 2017 at London's The Yard.
