Off-Broadway's New York Theatre Workshop has pulled back the curtain on two productions in its 2026-2027 season, which will include a U.S. premiere of the new musical Wild Rose by BAFTA winner Nicole Taylor (One Day). The production is coming to New York after a 2025 premiere at Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh.

The project is adapted from the 2018 film of the same name, also written by Taylor, tracking a young woman freshly out of jail in Glasgow, Scotland, and working towards becoming a country music star. With two kids to take care of, she takes a cleaning job and finds an unlikely cheerleader in her new boss. The jukebox stage musical features songs made famous by Dolly Parton, Wynonna Judd, Chris Stapleton, Caitlyn Smith, The Chicks, Patty Griffin, and more, along with the film's original song, "Glasgow (No Place Like Home)."

The musical will play NYTW in the fall, with dates to be announced. John Tiffany is directing, with choreography by Steven Hoggett and Vicki Manderson and music supervision by Tony winner Sarah Travis; Tiffany, Hoggett, Manderson, and Travis are all reprising their work from the Scottish world premiere. The production also reunites Tiffany, Hoggett, and NYTW after their Tony-winning Once premiered there in 2011. NYTW is producing Wild Rose by special arrangement with Patrick Daly, Gavin Kalin Productions, and Barbara Broccoli.

“Returning to New York Theatre Workshop with a new musical is incredibly meaningful to me and a homecoming in many ways,” says Tiffany in a statement. “This is a place that champions bold work and intimate storytelling. It is the perfect fit for Wild Rose as we introduce this deeply human story about spirit and resilience and hope to New York audiences for the first time.”

“There is no character I’ve ever written or will write who means more to me than Rose-Lynn Harlan," adds Taylor. "From the moment she roared into my mind, fully formed, I imagined her both on the stage and on the screen. Growing up as a country music–obsessed kid in Scotland, how I longed to escape what felt like a very emotionally inexpressive culture and go to the source of this music that meant everything to me. In a very thrilling case of life imitating art, here we are bringing the show to America, and I am so delighted to be working with the great John Tiffany. I cannot wait to share this story of mothers and daughters, reality and dreams with American audiences.”

Also in the fall, the company will bring back Roger Guenveur Smith's solo show In Honor of Jean-Michel Basquiat for an encore. The title returns to NYTW's stage following a sold-out run as part of the Under the Radar Festival earlier this year. The performance, which sees Smith paying tribute to his friend and collaborator with personal stories and historical anecdotes, features live sound by Marc Anthony Thompson. The encore run will be presented by special arrangement with Steven Adams.

Tickets are available via season subscriptions at NYTW.org. Sale dates for single tickets are to be announced.
