Casting is complete for Cause Célèbre Productions' staging of Susan Charlotte's The People Versus Lenny Bruce, which will begin previews May 7 prior to an official opening May 14 at Off-Broadway's Theatre Row.

Directed by Antony Marsellis, the company will be led by Johnny Anthony (The Other Americans) as Lenny Bruce, Timothy Doyle (Fortune's Fool) as Jules Feiffer, Dan Grimaldi (The Sopranos) as Richard H. Kuh, Ian Lithgow (Boy Gets Girl) as Herbert Ruhe, Jonathan Spivey (Smart Blonde) as Forrest Johnson, Stephen Schnetzer (Filumena) as Martin Garbus/Narrator, and Roberta Wallach (The Diary of Anne Frank) as Dorothy Kilgallen

This theatrical adaptation spotlights the story of Lenny Bruce—the stand-up comedian, social critic, and satirist who passed away from an overdose of morphine at the age of 40 in 1966—and his lawyer Martin Garbus, who tried to save his client from the system and from himself during the famed 1964 obscenity trial in New York City.

The People Versus Lenny Bruce is part of a series called All the Courts a Stage, based on the legal cases of Garbus. The two other plays, Unlucky Gal/The Story of Jane Doe and Last Chance Café, will be presented Off-Broadway in the fall.

Michael J. Osgood, former Deputy Chief of the NYPD/Special Victim’s Unit, is co-producer.

Performances are scheduled to continue through June 28.
