The Irish Repertory Theatre production of David Ireland (Cyprus Avenue)'s Ulster American officially opened March 15, and the reviews are rolling in! The American premiere production began performances March 6, and will continue through May 10. Ciarán O'Reilly (The Weir) directs.
The piece is centered on Tony winner Matthew Broderick, playing Oscar-winning Hollywood star Jay Conway as he, playwright Ruth Davenport (Geraldine Hughes) and director Leigh Carver (Max Baker) meet on the eve of the beginning of the rehearsals for a world premiere play they're all working on together. Press notes share the work "reveals some raw contradictions at the heart of modern storytelling and political posturing."
