Gyllenhaal was last seen on the Broadway stage in 2019 in Simon Stephens and Nick Payne's play Sea Wall/A Life. Directed by Transformers' Michael Bay, Ambulance stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza González in lead roles. It follows two adoptive siblings (Gyllenhaal and Abdul-Mateen II) who decide to rob a bank to cover a family member's hospital bills. As the situation grows hostile, they steal an ambulance and take an EMT (González) and an injured police officer (Garret Dillahunt) as hostages. The action flick is a remake of a 2005 Danish film and will be released by Universal Pictures.
