Because of Wicked, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's awards season resumes have been changed for good. Both leading ladies picked up 2026 Golden Globe nominations for their work in Wicked: For Good, the second installment in the screen version of Broadway's Wicked that hit movie theatres last month. Erivo is nominated in the Leading Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category for her work as Elphaba, becoming the first Black actor to be nominated in the category twice. Grande is nominated in the Supporting category for her Glinda. Both were also nominated last year for Wicked, making these double consecutive nominations.
Wicked: For Good was conspicuously missing from the Best Picture, Musical or Comedy nominees this year, though it did pick up a nod in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category. Its sole other nominations were for its new songs, with Stephen Schwartz picking up nods for both "No Place Like Home" and "The Girl in the Bubble."
But Wicked wasn't the only screen title with stage ties picking up Golden Globe noms this year. Lorenz Hart biopic Blue Moon is up for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy; and star Ethan Hawke got a nomination for his starring performance as Hart. Hamnet, adapted from Maggie O'Farrell's novel recounting the marriage between William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway, is a Best Motion Picture, Drama nominee. Director Chloé Zhao also got a nomination, with Zhao and O'Farrell also getting a nod for their screenplay and star Jessie Buckley recognized for her leading performance as Hathaway. Movie musical KPOP Demon Hunters is nominated for Best Motion Picture, Animated and for Original Song, for "Golden."
Stage favorites Steve Martin and Martin Short picked up more Leading Actor in a Television Series nominations for their work on Only Murders in the Building, which is itself up for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy. Also up for 2026 Golden Globes are fellow stage vets Sarah Snook, for All Her Fault; Michelle Williams, for Dying for Sex; and Carrie Coon, for The White Lotus.
Winners will be named at the 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards, set for January 11, 2026, at The Beverly Hilton. The ceremony will broadcast live on CBS.
