Hayley Podschun (Wicked, Hello, Dolly!) will join the cast of The York Theatre Company's Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin in Hollywood October 4 at Off-Broadway's Theatre at St. Jean's. The song-and-dance celebration, presented in association with Riki Kane Larimer and featuring the music and lyrics of Irving Berlin, began its limited engagement September 13 and will run through October 16.
Succeeding Kaitlyn Davidson (Cinderella), who departs October 1, she joins the cast which includes Jeremy Benton (42nd Street), Darien Crago (Holiday Inn), Danny Gardner (Flying Over Sunset), Darrell T. Joe (Jesus Christ Superstar), and Melinda Porto in her Off-Broadway debut. Understudies are Corinne Munsch (Bullets Over Broadway on tour) and Sean Quinn (Irving Berlin’s White Christmas).
The show originally made its world premiere in 2021 and returns to Off-Broadway's Theatre at St. Jean's. Conceived, directed, and choreographed by Tony nominee Randy Skinner (42nd Street) with a book by Barry Kleinbort (13 Things About Ed Carpolotti), Cheek to Cheek features music direction and additional orchestrations by David Hancock Turner (The Butcher Boy).
The production showcases the songs of the late Berlin and also tell the stories behind the man who made the music that made the movies dance. Expect tunes from such classic films as Top Hat, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, Holiday Inn, Easter Parade, White Christmas, and more.
The production also has scenic design by James Morgan, costume design by Nicole Wee, lighting design by Jason Kantrowitz, and sound design by Julian Evans. The production stage manager is Chris Steckel, and the casting director is Michael Cassara.
The show is an autobiographical stand-up comedy show exploring Ricky Sim's decision to come out as gay to his terminally ill Chinese-Malaysian immigrant mother.
The piece, which previously enjoyed sold-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, London's Soho Theatre, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and more, will return to Soho Playhouse.
The piece will be the latest offering in their 19th season of Project Shaw, a series of script-in-hand performances paired with post-show discussions alongside the cast and director.
