Surprise, Earthlings! The original West End recording of Back to the Future - The Musical is now available from Sony Masterworks Broadway.
The award-winning musical is currently running at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End, featuring new music by multi-Grammy winners Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard alongside classic songs from the movie. Following today’s digital release, the album will be available in CD format beginning April 15, with preorders is available now.
Based on the 1985 film, Back to The Future has a book by Bob Gale and new music and lyrics by Silvestri and Ballard, with additional songs from the film, including "The Power of Love" and "Johnny B. Goode".
Roger Bart and Olly Dobson star Dr Emmett Brown and Marty McFly, respectively. Also featured are Hugh Coles as George McFly, Rosanna Hyland as Lorraine Baines, Cedric Neal as Goldie Wilson, Aidan Cutler as Biff Tannen, and Courtney-Mae Briggs as Jennifer Parker.
Back to The Future is directed by Tony winner John Rando (Urinetown, On the Town), alongside a multi-Tony and Olivier Award-winning design team comprising scenic and costume designer Tim Hatley, lighting designer Tim Lutkin, lighting consultant Hugh Vanstone, sound designer Gareth Owen, and video designer Finn Ross, with choreography by Chris Bailey, musical supervision and arrangements by Nick Finlow, and Illusions by Chris Fisher. Orchestrations are by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook, and dance arrangements are by David Chase. Casting is by David Grindrod Associates.
The production is nominated in seven categories for the 2022 Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (Dobson), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Coles), Best Original Score or New Orchestrations (Silvestri, Ballard, Popp, and Crook), Best Set Design (Hatley and Ross), Best Lighting Design (Lutkin) and Best Sound Design (Owens).
