Brittney Johnson (Wicked, Les Misérables) will make her New York solo concert debut at Birdland Jazz Club. Presenting Ripple Effect May 1 at 7 PM, Johnson will reflect on her past and give a sneak peek of her future.
Throughout the evening, Johnson will sing the songs that have inspired her and help tell her journey through life and a career no the stage with music ranging from Mariah Carey tracks to Legally Blonde: The Musical numbers. James Sampliner will provide music direction and arrangements.
Johnson starred in Sunset Boulevard, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Les Misérables, and Motown: The Musical before making history as the first Black actor to play Wicked's Glinda. “I have the opportunity to show the powers-that-be in all kinds of capacities in our society that people are people, and we’re all capable. Let’s give everybody a shot and see what they can do,” Johnson told Playbill when reflecting on the experience.
Other upcoming events include Karen Akers' About Time, Victoria Shaw, Jim Brickman, and Peter Cincotti's Three Friends, One Piano, Steve Ross' They All Fall in Love, and Gavin Lee's Steppin’ Out with Fred Astaire. Every week, Birdland also presents Jim Caruso’s Cast Party, The Lineup with Susie Mosher, and Eric Comstock & Barbara Fasano.
