A revised version of the Drama Desk–nominated musical Children’s Letters to God will be presented March 29–30 at 7 PM at the Laurie Beechman Theatre.
The cast will feature Farah Alvin (It Shoulda Been You), Jenn Gambatese (Mrs. Doubtfire), Ryan Silverman (Side Show), Pablo Francisco Torres (Jerusalem Syndrome), and Jason SweetTooth Williams (Be More Chill).
Based on the best-selling book by Stuart Hample and Eric Marshall, the musical features a book by Hample, music by David Evans, and lyrics by Douglas J. Cohen.
Children’s Letters to God explores the moments that shape us all, including first experiences with love, the loss of a pet, bullying, learning to stand up for yourself, body image and self-acceptance, divorce and family change, and the enduring search for faith, doubt, and the answers to life’s biggest questions.
For this upcoming presentation, composer Evans and lyricist Cohen have reimagined the musical with a new concept in which adult actors give voice to the children behind the letters.
“Children have a remarkable way of asking the most profound questions with complete honesty,” said Cohen and Evans in a joint statement. “This new presentation allows us to revisit those voices through adult performers and explore how the wonder and curiosity of childhood continue to echo throughout our lives.”
The musical originally ran for six months Off-Broadway at the Lamb’s Theatre in 2004–2005. Since then, it has been licensed through Concord Theatricals and produced around the world.
Tickets, priced $30, are available at TheBeechman.com.
